[FANACC] Navillera Comeback & Fansigns

13 posts in this topic

Hello again dear Buddies! In this post I would like to share with you my experiences during GFriend’s Navillera comeback. I was in Korea June 26th- July 18th. This trip to Korea was my 1st specifically for GFriend which had happened due to events that occurred following GFriend’s Fanmeeting in Toronto. Please enjoy! :Eunha:

----Pre-Comeback

Spoiler

Wow this would be my second time in Korea this year, as I had finished my teaching contract in January. GFriend had actually brought me back to Korea. I wasn’t drawn because of the impending comeback, it was because of the Toronto Fan Project my group and I in Toronto had prepared. We were in charge of bringing all of the gifts given to GFriend at the fanmeeting. Unfortunately, Source Music wasn’t able to bring it all back so I thought making a trip to Korea by myself would be a fun thing to do. I knew that a comeback was impending so I decided to take a near-month long trip to Korea in order to participate in the comeback.

----160711 (Simply K-Pop Ep. 223/224)

Spoiler

Today was the release of GFriend’s 1st full album LOL along with its title track, “Navillera”. Unfortunately, I had missed the official fancafe sign up so I wasn’t able to go into the recording with the Buddies. I did however manage to snag a ticket into Simply KPop via Arirang’s Foreigner Ticket Application.  By applying through Arirang, Foreigners are given priority and able to sit in the front row during the recording. I attempted to ask for a Navillera slogan banner, but was rejected by the Source Music Fan staff. Thankfully I was seated with the Buddies! As today was the release day of Navillera, we would be among the 1st Buddies to ever hear the song, even before those that would attend the LOL showcase later in the evening. GFriend would record both Navillera as well as Gone With the Wind a few times, before the PD was satisfied with all of the shots they took. As this was the 1st ever recording, fan chants were very weak and only a few Buddies knew the entire thing, many whom were reading off of the back of the slogan banner.  I however proudly raised my GFriend Toronto Fan Meeting banner, although it read (Happy 500 Days with Canada Buddy) which was about 60 days off from their actually anniversary. I just wanted to be noticed. xD

----160712 – SBS MTV THESHOW (Pre-rec  1&2 + Live)

Spoiler

Held at SBS Prism Tower in the Sangam district of Seoul, this day I attended SBS MTV THE SHOW. I arrived at the Prism Tower prior to the 9am check in time for the pre-recording of Navillera. I was quite nervous as it was my first time going into a music show through the official fandom process. As my knowledge of Korean numbers was limited, I had a little bit of a tough time deciphering my place in line. It being my first time, I resulted in using English to figure out where my position in line was which worked without issue. (Sometimes I forget that I’m no longer living in rural South Korea.) A number of K-buddies actually didn’t show up so I was able to get a better spot than I had originally received at registration. (This was probably due to the fact it was a weekday morning.)

CnIA0NuUcAEp2Wa.jpg:large

Today I would receive my Navillera slogan banner and comeback sticker book. As always, for each broadcast a fan attends, they would receive a sticker which can be used towards the end of comeback special events. Skipping to the recording, I got a pretty good spot. I was situated in the second standing row and had a clear view of GFriend on stage. My goodness, they looked like goddesses wearing their outfits from the Laughing Out Loud album jacket. (Yerin was wearing the “Everything is ****” shirt. :P We were treated to numerous takes of Navillera and some chatting time with GFriend. As it was only the second recording for Navillera, fanchants were still a little weak. The lower than normal turnout was also a contributing factor to this.

Around 1:45PM was the second check in time for the pre-recording of Gone with the Wind. Wow I was being graced by GFriend’s presence for the second time today!! Although a B-track, I actually really like this song and I was happy it also had a fanchant. I’m not sure if many of you noticed, but that fanchant had been modified from the initial script that was released by the fancafe and now said “여자친구 사랑해요” It definitely made more sense in my opinion.  GFriend were wearing white shirts and black shorts… But my gosh, they had the fans blowing during the performances and the girls’ hair were blowing around as they performed! It truly was a magical experience! (The fans were actually blowing really strong!) I came back to the Prism Tower around 6:30 trying my luck getting into the live broadcast. The time came and they announced only 8 people would be allowed in addition to another 4 or so. (Because Yerin was MC at the time) My number was in the 40s so my chances of getting in were quite slim. However as rollcall came around, and the numbers were being called out we somehow got to me and I was selected last to join the live audience. WOOOOOW! Some luck I was having today!! It would be the first time I saw GFriend 3 times in one day and also my very first live broadcast seeing GFriend with the fandom!! SBS MTV The Show is a half standing and half seated audience, I’m not sure if this was a good thing but we were placed at the back of the standing room area just by the MC stage. As both songs were pre-recorded, GFriend would dance to the songs on stage while the pre-recorded songs were broadcasted on tv. Even though there were few Buddies, we did our best to support GFriend and chanted as loudly as we could as they danced to Gone with the Wind and Navillera.

----160713 - Show Champion (Pre-rec)

Spoiler

Show Champion is recorded in Ilsan at the MBC Dream Center just outside of Seoul and near the end of Line 3 of Seoul Metro. As this is the furthest music show away from Seoul, attendance is usually much lower than all of the others. I think this would be my best biggest feat in terms of position number as I would be #31 for the day. Navillera was the only song being pre-recorded as Gone with the Wind would be performed live during the live broadcast. Pre-recording had actually been delayed today and we were waiting quite a while until the all clear to enter the soundstage. As we were lining up in the corridor, we were able to hear Navillera being played. (Perhaps this was some testing they were doing with lights, sound, etc.) However once we were in, WOW the stage looked really beautiful. It was covered in floral greens and white flowers. It might have been the prettiest stage I have seen to date!!  GFriend were dressed in their lederhosen type outfits with a white top and light blue shorts. It was really cool, the stage and everything. Fanchants were also considerably better as this was the 3rd day of recording Navillera.

----160714 - M Countdown (Pre-rec+FanMeet)

Spoiler

Check in time today was early morning at 6:40am. I had taken one of the 1st trains out of Gangnam to DMC making my way to the CJ E&M Center. Today I would notice a lot more i-Buddies especially from Hong Kong and Taiwan. I would again draw a number in the forties and was placed to the far left facing the stage. It was great as I would be able to communicate with GFriend as they walked off the stage to the tv where they would review their recordings. Today’s outfits were the 1950’s tennis style dresses and heck, GFriend looked really cute in them. I had even called out to Eunha calling her cute (In English) which made her chuckle. The fanchants today were much louder than previous recordings. It seems like Buddies had finally got used to the fanchant and were screaming as loud as they could. This could also be due to the fact that the audience was larger than the 3 previous recordings. Again only Navillera was pre-recorded while Gone with the Wind was performed live during the broadcast. As GFriend said their final goodbyes to us and walked off stage, I call out to Yuju and say goodbye to her in English. She immediately replied back in English too!

The fanmeet would not take place until later on during the live broadcast. Check-in had been at 4:30 for a 6PM start time. As our fandom would be participating in the mini fanmeeting, we would be summoned into the building last. Not knowing what to expect, I wasn’t sure what this fanmeeting was about. Turns out it was a portion of the show where GFriend interacted with the hosts talking about their new song and such. There was not too much fan interaction but a few lucky fans were able to grab a few high fives with members of GFriend. I think maybe the best part of this fan meeting was actually being recorded on tv with GFriend! Although it was not what I had expected it to be, it was still worth it because I was still in the presence of our angels! ^_^

----160715 - Music Bank (Pre-rec)

Spoiler

Music Bank is held in Seoul at the KBS building in Yeouido. Once again, only Navillera was to be pre-recorded and Gone with the Wind performed live. Music Bank had to be my far least favourite of the recordings as the fans are seated far away from the stage. As we were escorted into the studio, KBS staff checked our IDs (I have no idea what for) and instructed us to turn our phones out and not to use them at all while in the studio. KBS is really strict about this rule. In fact if you are caught, your whole fandom is affected and it can lead to Source Music blacklisting you as well as preventing the fandom from attending future recording sessions and live tapings. Being seated really far from the stage, interactions with GFriend were limited as they were only able to wave and lip words to the fans. We were not allowed to yell across the auditorium to them and neither were they. The first few recordings were exclusive to the members recording their dance and vocals and the Buddys were limited to just watching. We were not allowed to cheer and fanchant until the third time around. In between takes, GFriend tried to communicate with buddies as much as possible mouthing out and using hand gestures such as “Have you eaten?” & “Did you sleep well?” Regardless of the lack of interactions with GFriend, the recording was top notch!

----160716 - Music Core (Pre-rec  1&2) + Sangam Fansign

Spoiler

Today would mark a day of pretty much no sleep but absolute fun! Thankfully GFriend would be pre-recording both Gone with the Wind and Navillera for Music Core. For some apparent reason, there would be two check-in times and two separate broadcast sticker given out, one each for Gone with the Wind and Navillera recordings. The check-in time for Gone with the Wind was at 9:30 am at the MBC building at DMC. It was a rainy and windy day, thankfully MBC let us wait inside the building. As there were two check-in times Buddies did not have to attend both recordings. Online I had placed in the 100s however I received the 90th position for the Gone with the Wind pre-recording. We had been sent in along with Teen Top fans and watched Teen Top pre-record before GFriend. As it was GFriend’s turn to record, the Buddies were sent down to the floor from the seated area closest to the stage. Today was a great day because over 100 Buddies showed up for the recording. Our fanchants were on point and extremely loud due to the number of Buddies present. For this recording, GFriend wore matching white sweaters and black shorts. Although it wasn’t the most visually appealing stage setup I have seen, the girls put on a great performance and the fans made it even better. Heck Navillera hadn’t been recorded yet. I would soon witness what I still think was the greatest performance by GFriend that I have ever witnessed with my own eyes. ^_^

Now to line up at 11:30 for a 1PM recording. As more Buddies had arrived for the Navillera recording, I was assigned a number in the lower 100s. Not too bad considering my online number was still higher. We had entered with the Sistar fans so we were able to a very powerful performance put on by the Queens of Summer. Their performance was really good and the choreo was stunning. Anyhow, as it was our turn I was really pumped for Navillera! As the song went on, OMG the crowd went nuts, I went nuts! I gave it my all during the fanchants and it can be heard on the recording. All of the Buddies united together and gave it their all of this show. It was probably the most amazing experiences I have ever had at a music show recording. GFriend was top notch with their performance and the Buddies were going full hard core! (The fan staff had challenged us to be as loud as possible in order to win another sticker for our sticker book.)

The fansign tonight was held at the Jayla Art Hall also in the DMC area. It is not the most extravagant venue as it did not have theatre style seats and everyone was leveled at the same height. This proved bad for those taking photos and hence the lack of fancams from the fansign. Tonight I drew near the middle near the lower half mark. I was not able to take many photos myself as my camera’s lens did not reach far enough. As it was the first fansign for Navillera (LOL), the fan gifts seemed more extravagant and thoughtful. One K-buddy bought a guitar for Yuju while another provided composite sketches of each and every member. Another k-buddy to remember was in the army who had saluted each and every member when his turn arose. This would be my of course my 1st of two fansigns for LOL and my 4th GFriend fansign ever. My gifts were nothing extravagant at all as I had only brought a few chocolates from Canada. Knowing that a comeback was around the corner, I probably should have kept my gifts from the Toronto concert and gave it directly to the members rather than mailing them. Well as it was my turn to go up I was as nervous as ever. Wow Yerin would be the 1st member I  would interact with today. I honestly can’t remember what I exactly said to her but of course I went through the “hi I’m Jon from Canada….. congrats on comeback and I know Navillera will do well!” sort of spiel. After signing my album and speaking a little, I gave Yerin a few chocolates. Most notably a few snack size packs of Smarties Candies. (Note for you Americans, it’s the candy coated chocolate kind, not the sugar candy.) Very interested with the Smarties, Yerin opened a box and poured the chocolate pieces into her hand. She placed a few pieces in my hand insisting that I eat some first. Holy heck I’m thinking to myself…. My bias is offering me some food.. THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER! After I eat a piece, she had a few pieces and reacted very positively continuing to eat more. She shortly stopped turning to Eunha, and offered her a few pieces. Eunha had also really enjoyed the chocolate! (This totally interfered with the time Eunha had with her.. SORRY!) As I said goodbye to Yerin, I made my way to Eunha who had begun speaking to me in Korean. Haha I had pretty much no idea what she was saying. I proceeded to speak in English telling her that I was from Toronto. My gift to Eunha was a postcard from Toronto, as well as assorted candies and chocolates. Just as Yerin was interested in the Smarties, Eunha also immediately opened a box and started eating them. xD It would be apparent that she really enjoyed them because she continued opening boxes after I left. This could be seen in fancams online. My next encounter would be with Umji. I had told her that I had attended all of the pre-recordings thus far and asked her if she or Gfriend would be returning back to Toronto anytime soon. I had also given Umji some candies including the smarties, as she ate them she made a funny face and said “I didn’t expect that to be chocolate.” Oh boy… This had led me to think Umji didn’t like chocolate which is TOTALLY NOT THE CASE! As my time with Umji came to an end I had told her I would be seeing her tomorrow at Inkigayo. Yuju was the next member along the table. As I sat down in front of Yuju I introduced myself and instantly reacted with “I remember you!” I previously had long conversations with Yuju during the Snowflake/Rough fansigns. I can’t believe that she had recognized my face from a few months earlier. I had gifted Yuju with a letter written on a postcard from Toronto. She had said that you couldn’t buy this in Korea and that was very special. I had also told Yuju that I had been to every pre-recording since Monday and I would see her again the next day at Inkigayo. SinB was next and as usual I had received the “No Englisheu.” This time I had come prepared with a note attached to my gift. My gift to SinB was Canadian smoked salmon jerky. With her limited English she said; “Korean writing, cute!” Yes!! I got SinB to say something to me in English… LOL! Last but definitely not least was leader Sowon! The tall and super pretty leader greeted me in Korean while I replied to her in English. Her only words to me in English were. “I love you!” Damn if I had any nervous bone in my body, just hearing that definitely put me at ease. My gifts to Sowon included a can of pringles, coffee crisp. Upon completing my time on stage, I went back down to my seat and took a few videos.

(My experience with Eunha starts at 16:33)

As Inkigayo is broadcasted earlier in the day, pre-recordings are typically held in the wee hours of the morning. My previous day actually didn’t end with the fansign. I had taken the last train of the night to Inkigayo and stay overnight at a local McDonalds until the recording time.

----160717 – Inkigayo (Pre-rec) + Yongsan Fansign

Spoiler

It was early in the morning and yesterday and still not ended for me. I was now at Inkigayo waiting to see GFriend’s final stage of the comeback week. Again as this was a weekend show, many students were able to attend and the fan numbers were pretty big. I didn’t have the greatest positon, but also not the worst. Seating was not used for this instance at Inkigayo and all fans were positioned in the pit area close to the stage. My memory from this recording was a little hazy as I hadn’t slept in almost 24 hours but I do remember that the camera crew dropped some equipment on the fans which led to a little bit of yelling. Anyhow, GFriend came onto the stage in white looking as flawless as ever. Navillera was the only song being performed for this pre-recording and was recorded about five times. Although it was early in the morning and most of us and next to no sleep, we were pretty darn loud! Kudos to all of the fans that morning I was really impressed with them. (Even with myself.) Following the recording I went back home for some sleep, woke up and did some last minute shopping and then headed to my last GFriend engagement for this comeback. :(

The Yongsan fansign was held in much nicer art hall than the previous day and was close to Seoul Station.  I drew in the top 20 and was assigned to the second row. My location was pretty good for photo taking and would prove to be a VERY good spot. (I will reveal why later.)

CnkBrviUMAEiF8i.jpg

Today Umji would be the first member I would see on the stage. I really didn’t need an introduction as I had just spoken to her the previous day.  She had actually begun the conversation and told me she had received the gifts I had sent her. (I sent GFriend 2 large boxes of gifts from fans at the Toronto fan meeting.) I totally forgot about asking GFriend whether or not that they had received the boxes and was extremely happy that she told me about them. I knew she was really telling the truth because she listed many of the gifts that I had packed in the box myself. Following talking about the gifts, I asked about whether GFriend had plans about coming back to Toronto. As I left she also held up the banner I gave her! (Which was from the Toronto fan meeting!

Cnj3tr1UIAAgAFP.jpg

The second member of the night would be Eunha who had greeted me as I sat down. “Hi Jon!” Once again, Eunha had remembered me just after a day. She had definitely remembered me from Rough comeback as well. I talked to her about Toronto and thanked her for coming to my city. I also spoke about attending the first week of Navillera comeback and wish them luck during the comeback. Sowon was the third member of the fansign however I didn’t let her speak very much. I just asked her if she had a good time in Toronto and asked if she had received the gifts I had sent from the Toronto Buddies. However I didn’t really get a response in English. She apologized for her lack of English skills and said she is studying English and hoped to have a more fluent conversation with me next time. “I study Englisheu classes.” I was really happy she said that and would not be disappointed during the Fingertip comeback as she did fulfill that promise of a more fluent conversation! Next up was SinB! “Hi Jon!, I no good at English.” She said. I immediately told her it was alright, and I knew that we couldn’t further our conversation. I tried to talk about Toronto and thanked her for coming by using simple words in English. This next moment would be one of the greatest moments of my life…. Onto Yerin I introduced myself again as a fan from Toronto and was going home the next day. As she heard that she immediately GRABBED MY HAND & CONTINUED TO HOLD IT!!!! OH MY GOODNESS YERIN AND I WERE HOLDING HANDS… SHE WOULDN’T LET GO… I WAS FREAKING OUT ON THE INSIDE..  Although I kept my cool on the outside. xD I put on a more sad kind of depressed face as she held my hand and I continued to talk about how I went to every GFriend schedule this week and blabbered about Toronto. She continued to hold my hand right until the very end as the manager scooted me along.. I said that I would see her again very soon. Sadly I would be moving on to the last member at the table. Yuju had greeted me saying “You are the Canada Buddy from yesterday!” and asked if I had slept. She had explained to me her memories from Toronto. GFriend had walked the streets of Toronto and ate at a restaurant eating Pizza and seafood dishes. Sadly this would be my last personal experience with GFriend this comeback. However, near the end GFriend would take a selfie with the audience and sat two rows infront of me.. I have yet to find this selfie.. If anyone finds it.. Please let me know!!

Thank you for reading about my Navillera adventures! :BeastToss-33:

All comments and feedback are welcome!  :)

I hope to never forget my time with GFriend. Many parts of my fan accounts were written on my phone notes right after the experiences. I just finally decided to share them all with Buddies :) Thanks for reading @Jkyc!

My goodness it was such a hectic time. Going to Korea for GFriend comeback is such yet tiring/hectic experience. You definitely don't get much sleep. But hey, supporting the girls, getting to meet and talk to them. It's truly amazing! Thank you for stopping by and reading!

More fan accounts to come! :BeastToss-26:

Thanks for the fan account! It sure sounds fun. I'm not too au fait with the kpop scene...how do foreign fans get a chance to participate in the pre-recordings of the music shows and fansigns?

Thank you. I'm working on a few more, but just need some time to finish compiling.

Thank you for reading! Well, leveled-up Gfriend Fancafe members have the opportunity to pre-register for music show recordings. There are only a certain number of slots available, so you have to be really quick to register for an event. Fansigns are open to everyone. When announced, the store location to purchase physical albums will be revealed. If you are lucky enough, you may be chosen to be 1/100 fans to participate at the fansign!

Is it easy for people who do not understand the Korean language to navigate the fancafe site and go through the fansign/music show process?

Its best to know some Korean, the fancafe along with the GFriend fan staff use no English whatsoever. Although it is possible to Google translate things.

@AznSeoul Can you give a rough guide on how many albums you need to get into Gfriend fansigns? I'm in Korea at the moment while they're promoting Sunny Summer and I really want to go to one/many (depending on how much they are) but it's so hard to find info about this. A buddy I met the other day at MCountdown said 25 should be comfortable but he only recently rejoined the fandom and you seem to have been to a lot of fansigns so you seem like a good person to ask.
