Hey guys! So right now I'm compiling a HUGE document (and I'm still working on it) for theories and such. I want this to be a big project so that buddies can figure out the chronological order of the MVs, or what the MVs even mean together as a whole! For NOW! I will only put the document as CAN EDIT, since this is the beginning. However, if quality starts to decrease or people start brigading the document I WILL make it comments only! Heres the document!: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZxbT6v_IWpflhtUAqT-K7u5qGghERmrSWPVfrHqfeUg/edit?usp=sharing I do want to share this on twitter, but obviously there are a lot of toxic people there, and I'd rather not take my chances (for now). So please keep it in this community, or if you do share it, please make sure to PM the person you want, rather than on a page of lots of people!
  2. Hey guys, it's BlueRicky. Before I start explaining my theory I need to say that I will probably be miss in action on GFS for a period of time in the recent future. As some of you know, I'm currently in my last year for high school and the pressure and the amount of work has been really piled up on me in the recent days. So I decided to send this out as quick as possible in case I become too busy that I can't even visit the site. Furthermore, my theory this time is based on the "Eunha is dead" theory in TFTMN. (0:03) The first scene of the MV, one thing to notice is Eunha's position, she is far away from the table and seems to be out of the group, while the other five girls are gathering around the table. (0:10) A sock is on the spinning fan above the table where Gfriend gathers. From(0:03) to (0:08), if you keep an eye on the environment behind Gfriend, it's not that tidy. Things are everywhere and don't seem organized. For example, the plates and books are just piling up, towels are just lying on the screen. I believe this resembles the Gfriend had a hard time after they lose Eunha, their life has turned chaotic and they don't have the mood to tidy up and just muddling away their days. From (0:03) to (0:23), notice the direction SinB stir her drink. Every time when the camera changes an angle, the direction will change, she started with anti-clockwise, then clockwise, then anti-clockwise again and so on. Also, Umji was playing a hula hoop, which also includes the movement "spin". So the fan, SinB's drink, and Umji's hula hoop all have been spinning. I think the spinning action here means the utter disorder happened to Gfriend's life after the tragedy happened, the combination of the sad, depressed and disgruntled emotions. Until (0:26), the MV was continuing the story of TFTMN, talking about the Gfriend members are suffering from the past. (0:27) Here the turning point of the MV, we could see that the fish that Eunha stared at in TFTMN has been moved into a big fish tank rather than a small bottle. The fishes are identical compare to TFTMN's fishes and there are also some more fishes added. I think this resembles the fishes are Eunha's pets, Gfriend wants to use fishes as a way to commemorate Eunha. Which they have moved the fishes to a larger and better place. (0:34) Some photos flashed by which is the content from Yerin reading on a magazine named "Sunny Summer". She soon closed the book which I think she is not in the mood of having a holiday. (0:45) The camera focused on Sowon's earring which was already shown in (0:20), some buddy said it's blue topaz which I agree with them. Blue Topaz is a stone of peacefulness, calming to the emotions, and ideal for meditation and connecting with spiritual beings. Which perfectly shows why Sowon is wearing blue topaz, a way to keep calm and connect to Eunha as a spirit. (0:53) Umji is being dragged away by someone, the first time I watched this scene I felt it's cute but confusing. I personally think that Umji is suffering from mental disorders. In TFTMN, she had suicide or self-injury attempts. I believe this scene means that someone else is trying to put her somewhere safe in case of she doing anything stupid. (1:02) Eunha coughed out a diamond, I think this is a reference to "Love Bug" which one of Eunha's lyrics was "Sparkling diamond in my head". Also, she soon looks through the diamond and saw images with many reflections. And starts from (1:09) to(1:29), Gfriend is together having fun which includes Eunha. I think this is another recall of the past when Eunha was alive and they were having fun together. The camera looks blurry which is even more like a flashback of the past. The recall ends at (1:29) when Yuju wakes. So I think the recall was performed by Yuju which is the content of her dream. (1:36) Umji is using a sock to "fish" Eunha. Remember in TFTMN, Eunha could only appear at night. I think here it resembles that Umji is trying to let Eunha appear during the day. Notice that she also closed the curtains to increase the chance of making Eunha appear. Which also, shows the unstable of Umji's mental disorder. (1:40) to (1:45) Sowon is watering the plants and probably cleaning the room. In TFTMN she seems to be one of the most strong-willed characters. I think here it shows that she is trying to tidy up the mess and creates a better environment for the rest of the members. (1:48) Yerin is alone, she looks scared and the theme of the scene turns grey. Which I think she is in a similar condition with Umji(mental disorder), but just slightly better than Umji, she just has the fear of being left alone or lose another friend. (2:05) The second turning point of the MV. First thing, the sock on the fan is gone. Meanwhile, the background has a lot of plants and things look organized. (The shelves are now cleared if you look closely). I think this is mostly the effort of Sowon, which is trying to turn everything back to normal for her friends. (2:10) Eunha is dressing herself up as a character on a painting. I think this happens in another dimension, which Eunha is trying to "act" like a painting so that the other member could recall her from viewing the painting. Notice the background is DARK so that Eunha might be has a method to appear during the day if it's dark enough. (2:31) The environment looks like a KTV, or Karaoke room which it's dark and Eunha is back with the rest of the members. But it's more likely it's night time that Eunha appears. However, notice there are only 4 drinks on the table rather than 5 or 6. Does this mean they have lost someone else? (2:49) Umji, Yerin, Eunha opened the boxes of cookies. I think the weird thing about this scene is the two characters who have mental issues are together with Eunha. If the follow up the theory above, Umji or Yerin might do something stupid which they ended up joining Eunha. Both Yerin and Umji have some weird scenes during the MV, but I think Umji is the most likely to be the ghost. Later at (2:58), she is sitting together with Eunha eating a cookie and at (3:10) the members are trying to "capture" or "trap" Umji just like what did they do to Eunha. Overall, I think the main story of "Sunny Summer" is the recovery of the members from the sadness. The members tried to recall the good memories from the past with Eunha and trying to make her appear longer than just night time. The (2:42) really worries me which the focus on 4 glasses of drinks look intentionally rather than just a normal scene. Gfriend might have lost Umji or Yerin in this series. If the story continues in the next comeback, I expect something huge is going to happen in the next MV. Hopefully, this series would end up as a happy ending. Thank you for looking my theory for "Sunny Summer", this is all my opinion and there could be a lot of flaws in my analyze. What's your theory for Sunny Summer? #Every day makes me a little bit closer to work for Gfriend Regards, BlueRicky
  3. Hey everyone! Recently, I wrote a bit of a theory detailing what I think goes on inside the MV. While the "Eunha is dead/a mental patient" theory is definitely alluring in a dark manner, I find that they don't really explain some of the things in the MV. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts! You'll have to forgive me for not including MV images though; that'd really make the post too long and it's long enough as it is. Let me know what you think, and enjoy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Main Story: This MV is the story of a girl who undergoes a tough breakup and though she dreams and hopes it could go differently, is eventually confronted by harsh reality, which she seeks to escape. The Premises: Each premise is central to this theory and I’ll explain how each are proven. In the story, the moon represents the ideal situation Eunha chases after, but can’t reach. This is supported by the moon being covered up and replaced at times (more on that later) As well, the moon shows at night and is also unreachable. Every girl except Eunha is a manifestation of her personality/mentality. Think like “Inside Out”, Joy, Anger, etc. all influencing the character. This is a huge assumption to make, so I’ll explain the exact thought process. First, literally all of them are sad. It’d make sense if they all had something happen to them, but… that never seems to show, while the breakup is referenced by the lyrics. Secondly, the lyrics only reference a breakup; nothing else. So there is only one event to focus on that is causing all this pain. Third, I’d be astounded if all of them have broken up with someone all at the same time; their actions don’t really match up, like with Yuju at the gravesite, Umji throwing around paper airplanes, Yerin listening to old tapes, etc. Furthermore, Umji’s planes say “I love mom” and Yerin’s tape says “family trip”. Clearly, that’s not referencing a breakup. In the MV analysis, I’ll explain each of their actions, because their actions are an accurate reflection of the trait they represent. Since they all have a consistent, active character (unlike Eunha, who seems to be a passive character), I realized that each one represents one trait only. Therefore, the breakup and stuff must have happened to Eunha, and each one represents a part of her personality. They demonstrate the internal conflict that follows the breakup. Each girl represents a trait of Eunha’s personality/mentality. As mentioned earlier, their actions all line up with one specific trait. I will explain in the MV analysis. For now, here are the traits each member represents. Sowon = hope Yerin = grief Yuju = acceptance Sinb = reality Umji = innocence This is really important to the theory, so please keep it in mind. MV Analysis: Now that the premises are out of the way, let’s begin going through the MV. Opening: The opening scene shows Eunha in white, staring out of a window. Sowon is also staring out of the glass elevator, and this shows Eunha is hopeful. But when the breakup happens, the curtains close, and Sowon closes her eyes. At this moment, hope is lost, at least momentarily. We watch Sowon open her eyes again as Eunha rekindles her hopes as she escapes/ignores reality to dream. SinB, representing reality, starts her journey down the road to find Eunha and bring her back. Verse 1: These shots actually serve to solidify what each character represents. Yerin is shown as sitting (and feeling) down, which, well… she’s grieving. Eunha is definitely a passive character - she watches fishes all while daydreaming. Umji throws around paper planes, but here’s the important part: All the bits referencing families like “I love mom”, “Family trip”, etc. are red herrings. Otherwise, rip most of GFriend’s families. In fact, the phrase “I love mom” has nothing to do with the video or the breakup - it’s only a childlike statement to prove that Umji displays Eunha’s innocence. Similarly, Yuju wanders about the woods, looking troubled and lost, but she, representing acceptance, shows that Eunha is not yet ready to accept what has happened. Chorus: Like many have guessed, this is a flashback scene. This is a throwback to when Eunha was still enjoying her relationship, and everything was together. Why do we know this? Because Eunha is sitting and smiling with SinB. Remember that SinB represents reality - therefore, both Eunha and SinB are in sync, having a good time. All her inner personalities are also having a good time as a result of this, giving further credence to the idea that they’re part of Eunha - affected by what she does and how she feels. Oscar nominee Yerin’s crying scene further reinforces her assigned trait of grief, and Sowon comforting her shows how Eunha is attempting to push away her grief with optimism and hope. Verse 2: Here is where things start to change, as Eunha begins to accept what has happened. First, Umji comes down from the monkey bars, which were like a safe place to house her innocence. That innocence has began to come to terms with the breakup as well. Yuju lays flowers and the present at the grave. What the present is isn’t important; rather, it is again a representation of Eunha becoming more accepting of the situation, as the grave represents the death of that relationship. At the end of this verse, we’re served with another flashback scene. This flashback goes all the way back to the start of her relationship. Confused about her feelings, her inner personas come find her, with SinB at the lead. The reality at the time is that she’s in a relationship, and everything is happy during it. Yay. Although it might seem out of place, and a strange point to analyze, I think the flashbacks are here to really emphasize the differences in during the relationship and after the relationship aka during the MV. Chorus 2: Half the chorus was explained, and in the next half we watch Yerin demonstrating that grief again. Along comes Sowon to try and cheer her up, and as she does, all the other personas are happy, albeit briefly. Bridge: IMO the most important part. Yuju releases balloons. At first, this doesn’t seem like much, but it shows that Eunha is giving up on that hope of the ideal. This is real acceptance. As we continue, we watch SinB running out of somewhere to find Eunha. At this point, SinB opens the door, and Eunha wakes up; reality catches up to her, and she has to wake up to reality and accept the situation. Chorus 3 (first half): Here’s where the first premise comes into play again. Eunha now accepts her situation, but still doesn’t want to confront reality. As the MV progresses, there is now a lot of lightning and thunder, as mentioned in their MV commentary themselves, and shown in a few scenes. The scene where they’re all sitting together while lights flashed were originally thought to be cameras, but during their commentary they mentioned it was lightning. We’ll take it as a sign to represent the inner turmoil going on. We now get a group shot with Eunha playing games with the other members, though looking noticeably upset. This is because first, she’s in sync with all her feelings and personas again after accepting the reality, but she doesn’t want to be here. Yuju yells from the top of a mountain, wanting Eunha to just accept it and move on, and Sowon, stands with lightning in the background. At this point, Eunha gives up hope as well. Chorus 3 (second half): The reason for splitting these two is because this is where it gets really, really weird. I couldn’t really understand this at first, but my theory here is that Eunha surrounds herself with distractions to avoid all her personas and continue chasing that dream relationship. There is no moon around, but when she wakes up the second time there are lights all around her. Each one represents another desire, another daydream, another dead end that won’t lead anywhere. But Eunha doesn’t care. She’ll surround herself with the distractions, if only to get away from her true feelings. And that’s why the others can’t find or reach her. She’s deliberately avoiding them to distract herself from the pain that acceptance ultimately brings. Ending: During the ending instrumental, we get the conclusion of the story. Umji’s planes are scattered everywhere, showing innocence in an eternal, frozen state. This is because as she chases fruitless dreams to replace the moon she couldn’t reach, Eunha can still maintain that innocence. That’s why everything is frozen. But for the others, Yuju’s flowers wilt, acceptance being ignored. SinB and reality leave behind an empty road; they catch up to Eunha but to no avail, for she ignores it. As Eunha looks back, she acknowledges the reality one final time; no lamp can compare to the moon that she knows is out there. This is even reflected in the choreo - Eunha starts the dance, and as the song progresses she loses her hope and accepts reality, hence SinB ending the song. Conclusion With this information in mind, it’s evident that all of this story takes place in Eunha’s head as she explores her own feelings after a traumatic breakup. The flashback scenes shows us how the traits act in happy times so that we can distinguish between them during the relationship and after the breakup. Each member shows another emotion, and we find that Eunha starts as an innocent, hopeful girl who soon loses that, but can’t accept reality. Her hopes continue to override her grief and pain until reality catches up and she’s forced to accept it, at which point she loses all hope and tries to distract herself. It doesn’t work, and she ends up needing to come face to face with reality anyways. She started the MV in a white dress, and ended it in a black jacket. That innocence, while frozen, can never be permanent. Therefore, thanks to these clues and how each character in the MV shows only one trait in line with all their actions, I can conclude that everything is in Eunha’s head, each member represents different traits in her mentality, and that this is a sad story about confused feelings after a breakup.
  4. April 16th GFriend dropped a scheduler for their comeback. It was a shocking news for Buddies at midnight. News release thread: Yes. This is a schedule timetable that indicates for us TO GET READY FOR EVERYTHING. What more interesting about the scheduler is.. many of us have seen some details that caught our attention. The new logo, Symbolic/abstract word mark and its overall concept. It has been more interesting and exciting because there was a lot of details that can be connected in the previous eras. Many pointed out directly the resemblance of concepts from Fingertip and Love Whisper. So everybody thought it is something connected between the two. Let’s take a look in this summary. The start of Hints Sowon, Eunha and SinB already teasing us from the beginning by putting a moon emoticons and mentioning ‘night’ in their captions. The similarity of concepts Many pointed out it was similar to Love Whisper, which the design placed at the back of album. ‘Moon and star with hand’ Same in the photo cards too The logo design The logo design of ‘G’ in GFRIEND in Love Whisper similar with the current logo now. Both logo has star design. Is it connected to Fingertip logo also? Fingertip has design that looks like sun rays around the G and it is covered with black color. GFRIEND new logo, Time with the Moon Night is a nice representation logo of a moon concept. Not too overlook, fierce or too complicated but rather minimal vector of lines, dots and has balance of light objects. The abstract word mark logo that looks unique, not too feminine but looks mysterious that has also meaning behind. ㅇㅈㅊㄱ = 여자친구 Initials are Hangul version of GFRIEND and also numbers 0430 (April 30) as comeback date Let’s take a look in the poster. The border frame design has similarities with Fingertip border frame design from the album. Details of Frame borders: Instead of flowers, it was replaced with phases of moons. Phases of moons can be found in 4 areas in the border frame This is the full actual moon phase stages Pink moon is also mentioned For April 2018: Last Quarter- April 8 New Moon - April 16 First Quarter - April 23 Full moon - April 30 GFriend released the scheduler comeback in the same day April 16th which is New Moon and April 30th which scheduled as their comeback will be a Full Moon on that day. see this link https://www.moongiant.com/moonphases/April/2018 The Lettering design of the song title is similar with Season of GFRIEND first concert. This is perhaps a continuation or the introduction of new era this 2018. Buddies pointed out the similarity vibe from Dear Buddy promotional poster too Even the lettering and logo have the same 2 star pointed Buddies pointed out the constellations that found in Fingertip MV that possibly connected with Time for the Moon Night? It's like many Buddies believed that Time for the Moon Night is a continuation or like a second version of Fingertip according to the hairstyle and having girl crush looks. Started during Season of GFRIEND first concert, the girls showcased girl crush performance and recently keep promoting their songs in some events. Even in their past posts during 2017 Melon Music Award mentioned the title. It looks like they are giving hints in the beginning Is this really connected? or just another concept? Did Source Music intended to make these happened or was it coincidence? We will see the concept photos soon and will know more information about the comeback! What are your thoughts? Share it Buddy!
  5. This thing has been crossing my mind. Since (tbh) the new concept is not doing as well as they’re expected to be, I think Soumu should have back up plan Please don’t get me wrong, I love their new concept but imho it’s not a good decision and too risky for a small company (from business perspective, i have business background). They did it too soon, should have wait a bit later. But well...Soumu planner & marketer are really smart and I’m sure they fully aware of what they’re doing. I think the may have a plan to release repackage album and will use their usual concept (or more feminine yet mature one) for the promoted song. Or twin mini album like shinee’s misconception will be awesome. What do you think? I hope they also create continuation MV for Fingertip (so the plot will make sense for me). Currently i’m re-watching their mv, looking for hints LOL.
  6. This early 2017, GFriend is coming back with new surprising concept. This time, they are back with unique looks and big transformation as power girl crush! Feb 26, Source Music released first GFriend’s teaser entitled ‘Fingertip’. The production is suprisingly different from their past music videos and many of us were really amazed as they tried a different theme! March 6th is the release of the music video and many buddies who had watched the teaser already gave theories, plot stories like what could be the real concept. Now, it’s somehow interesting because the teaser is somehow tricky and confusing. So what is the concept? But based on the teaser, you will see some basic and simple infos. Teaser is about showing the basic plot before we know the whole story. Let’s see the basic infos first. There are two types of version: Military & Knight Military and Knight have the same characteristics in reality. It’s either: Fighting for someone Fighting for authority Battle War Weapon BUT, all of these are too realistic to represent as a concept for the MV. it should represent an abstract and idealistic plot that will be suitable for the ‘innocent & youthful’ image that GFriend had. As Gfriend portray their stunning and unvulnerable image, another retro-ish theme their trying to pull-off once again, but this time, funky disco! the continuation of their previous promotion, ‘LOL’ retro theme. ‘abstract and idealist’= how? Continuation of retro theme on the mv? Take a look at these.. Roller skates to Toy guns These are the symbols that represents retro Toy guns? retro? If you talked about toy guns with colors, you will suddenly reminisced your youth days. Have you played on Arcade shooting games? Yes this could be the possible sample on what GFriend wants to show. Arcade shooting gun games became really popular back from 2000s. The golden age of arcade video games is usually defined as a period beginning sometime in the late 1970s and ending sometime in the mid-1980s Arcade shooting game has features like low minimal graphics. On GFriend’s teaser, they used a glitch effect which is basic when playing a video game. The glitch effect is giving off an arcade vibes and since they are holding light guns, The graphic effects for gun shot will automaticaly turned into video game effect just like we see in every classic video games. This could be the possible concept for their mv and it looks really interesting! Now the 2nd teaser was released last March 1. This time it’s all about the basic plot of the mv. First of all, why are they holding light guns? Are they like prepairing for a battle? where? On arcade video games, you will have an opponent when playing. It has a place where each people can fight and win. take a look at this. On the first teaser, there is a signage display “FANTASY STUDIO”. it looks like a name of building or apartment that they were staying/lodging. The FANTASY STUDIO might stand as their battlefield. Fantasy means, the faculty or activity of imagining things, especially things that are impossible or improbable. There could be a lot of fantasy things that can be found on the building such as: Trapped in the mirror Lucid dreams Animal toy displays Fast tickling clock Still, we don’t know what the main plot of the story. But this will like focus more on every individual member’s actions. First, they are wearing sleeping pajama so the time plot is night. Sleeping that is connected to dreaming, having lucid dreams and Astral travel projection -Lucid dreams is where you can control yourself in your dreamworld. Internal mind -Astral projection is the opposite. It’s dreaming on external world which can be the same as the real physical world, or different world). In this teaser, Umji and Yerin’s body is being separated. So in the first place the mv is all about having lucid dream, conciousness and awakenening. In this scene, Umji is picking up Sinb’s gun knowing that she’s already down but in the end, Umji was tricked and just shooted using a light gun. It’s Game over for Umji! The scene represents a ‘Gameplay’. If so, there could be someone who is a traitor and someone will play safe. It’s seems like they are having a battle with each other.. In the game, someone could plan to do allies with another people or using a trick/ trap to someone? A message to be left for a person who is missing. It could be a message or just a clue? for strategy (as seen on Eunha’s expression for not being sad) Clock could be possbile as the timer for the game or it’s the time when everything will turned into lucid dreams. It could be the start of their battle into fantasy world Still we must wait for the whole MV and this got more exciting! Zanybros is also known for great plot twists like they did on Rough MV. This coming March 6th, let’s anticipate!
